Oct 5 (A) First Large
Group: The Challenge of Faith
Description: This meeting focuses on the need for constant Faith
Formation, and discernment. It describes the Sacrament of Confirmation
its preparation to be a strengthening experience, and an opportunity
to claim our actions, faith, and lives as Roman Catholics.
Oct 11/12 (B) First Small Group:
The Community of Faith
Description: This meeting fosters an appreciation of the fact
that a specific journey is beginning. And the journey of Early
Christian Community was a domestic experience that bloomed into
our larger Church and Tradition. Students make journals for the
year, and small groups establish for themselves the importance
of their small communities as they invest in it.
Oct 18/19 (C) Second Small Group:
Our Catholic Identity
Description: This gathering will demonstrate and highlight some
things that create our identity as members of the oldest Christian
Community on earth-the Roman Catholic Church. Kids will be challenged
to think about some of the most basic elements of our faith traditions:
the Eucharist, the role of Mary, the structure of our Church,
the laity and the religious. This meeting also promotes the reality
that Catholic Identity evolves as we understand ourselves as shareholders
of the faith and witnesses of it in our lives.
Nov 2 (D) Large Group: The Communion
of Saints
Description:This meeting provides a broad-based understanding
of Saints and saints in the life our Church. We'll also discuss
martyrdom and the process of becoming a Saint. It focuses on spiritual
role models, and leads to the importance of a sponsor. Students
will also begin the process of selecting a Confirmation name,
and a sponsor. They will be given guidelines, and a due date for
the selection of their sponsors.
Nov 8/9 (E) Third Small Group:
The Global Church/Solidarity
Description:The meeting will describe our Church as voice not
simply to its members, but for the world. It will explain the
Catholic Social teachings of the Church as described by the USCCB.
It will compliment the Global Solidarity Initiative of our community
as well. Its purpose is to describe issues of the world, as issues
of faith, and the shared responsibility of the People of God.
Nov 15/16 (F) Fourth Small Group:
The Sacraments of Initiation
Description: This meeting will explore how people of come into
the Roman Catholic Church over time. It will describe the history
of the Sacraments of Initiation. Students will report the findings
of their Confirmation name, and Sponsors on this night. Prayer
will be an important element of this gathering because their names
and Sponsored will be blessed.
Dec 1 (G) Seminary Tour Field Trip
Night
Description: this was a tour of St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo
Park. The focus was on Vocations, and the commitment of the religious,
and religious orders. No make up for this, another tour is being
scheduled for those who missed.
Dec 7 (H) Sponsor Meeting: Guides
on the Journey
Description: This is the first of two gatherings sponsors are
being asked to attend. Candidates will previously have turned
in their Sponsor Information. Sponsors are invited to come to
this evening for faith sharing with their candidate. This gathering
gives sponsors a chance to learn about their important role, learn
about their candidate, and ignite the sharing of this important
Sacramental preparation.
Dec 13/14 (I) Parent Night: Life
as a House
Description: This is the first of two gatherings parents are asked
to attend with their candidate. It's an opportunity to appreciate
that faith, and our image and experience of God, starts at home.
Parents and candidates will be challenged to discuss what they
believe and why they believe it.
Dec 17 Advent Reconciliation Service
Description: This is the first of two reconciliation services
Confirmation Candidates are being asked to attend. Some will also
be involved. You can't make this up, but simply must attend another
service or go to Confession on your own and let me know when you
did that.
